A Tribute to Dr. Ruth Pfau
Pakistan's Mother Teresa, Dr. Ruth Katharina Martha Pfau was a German born humanitarian who served in Pakistan for more than 50 years. Dr. Pfau visited India in 1960 at the age of 31; she put a halt to her journey at Karachi when she came across the colony of Leprosy patients on McLeod Road, Karachi.

Dr. Pfau visited India in 1960 at the age of 31; she put a halt to her journey at Karachi when she came across the colony of Leprosy patients on McLeod Road, Karachi.
 
She left the country and the world in despair in the morning of 10th August, 2017. After a state funeral, she was laid to rest in Karachi on August, 19th. She, with the help of donor agencies, has built a Leprosy hospital at Karachi. She also started the first Leprosy Technician's Course in 1965 which has so far trained more than 52,000 technicians. Due to her unparalleled efforts, Pakistan was declared Leprosy-free in 1996 by World Health Organization (WHO).
 
She has authored four books about her experiences as a humanitarian and philanthropist in Pakistan and Aghanistan and has received many awards including Sitara-e-Quaid Azam, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Hilal-e-Pakistan from the Government of Pakistan and The Order of the Cross from Germany.
