Children’s Literature Festival is a social movement by Idara-e-Taleem-o-Agaahi with a goal to expand the culture of reading for creativity, imagination and multi-sensory stimulation beyond textbooks and tests. CLF encourages children to read, teachers and schools to adopt innovative reading/learning methodologies encouraging critical thinking and empowering children as learners. On 6th June from sunrise to about 09:30 AM Venus will pass through the disk of our sun. Our resident astronomer Umair Asim will live broadcast it through Khwarizmi Science Society’s Channel of Night Skies Network using sophsticated Halpha solar filters and and a C14 Scope. For most living humans June 5/6, 2012 will be their last chance to see Venus cross in front of the Sun. The last transit of Venus occurred in 2004, but after this June the world will have to wait until 2117 for the next one. This historic viewing will also give us a chance of measuring the earth-sun distance. So keep in touch with us. In order to join this event, please logon to the Society’s channel on Night Skies Network! See you there.
Science is not only provides a base for modern technology but it is also a part of human culture. It enriches the human civilization because of its intrinsic value. There is another aspect of culture which is concerned with cultural traits of society and its social evolution. Science has made tremendous contributions in the social evolution of humankind. In my talk, I want to explore this relationship between evolution of science and social evolution.
