Abstract:

What if a liquid could suddenly act like a solid right in your hands? That’s exactly what participants discovered during the Non-Newtonian Fluids Show, organized by Khwarizmi Science Society in collaboration with Chughtai Public Library.

The session invited children to step into the fascinating world of Non-Newtonian fluids  materials that don’t behave the way we expect. Through live demonstrations and simple explanations, participants explored how some substances can flow like liquids one moment and resist force like solids the next. Instead of just watching, they were encouraged to predict, question, and experiment along the way.

Then came everyone’s favorite part: getting hands-on. Participants created their own “oobleck” using everyday ingredients, mixing, squeezing, and even punching it to test its unusual properties. One moment it slipped through their fingers like a liquid, and the next it hardened under pressure turning curiosity into excitement and learning into play.

But the experience didn’t stop at fun. Along the way, participants discovered how similar materials are used in real life from protective gear to innovative industrial solutions helping them see how science connects directly to the world around them.

By the end of the session, it wasn’t just about messy hands, it was about asking questions, exploring ideas, and experiencing science in action. The event left participants with a simple but powerful realization: science isn’t just something you read about, it’s something you can touch, test, and truly enjoy.
