Abstract:

A two-day virtual physics camp for girls in grades 9 to 12 in Pakistan was held on 18 and 19 December, 2021. The website of this camp is: https://physicscamp4girls.pk/. This event was arranged by the organizers of Particle Physics Outreach Event with the aim of introducing young girls to some Pakistani women achievers in science, to inspire them to imagine themselves as scientists, and thus, pursue this ambition. The motivation was to bring forward empowered women in the field of physics to share their experiences so that Pakistan’s young women look up to these role models and gain inspiration through their journey of grit, hardwork and brilliance to aspire to become future scientists and problem-solvers.

Khwarizmi Science Society (KSS) was represented at the event by Mohsina Asif (Science Communicator, KSS) and each day the strength of audience was up to 300 participants. Online quizzes, filled with fun and thought-provoking questions, were designed and conducted by KSS on each day. The top performers of each quiz were awarded with telescope kits and books. The purpose of these quizzes was to not encourage competition among the participants but rather engage them in an interactive activity and stimulate them to rethink some fundamental physics concepts. A talk introducing the mission and work of KSS was also delivered by Mohsina Asif.

Recordings of both the sessions are provided below.
