On February 2nd, 2023, the Pak Alliance for Maths and Science (PAMS) and the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT) organized a celebratory event to acknowledge the efforts of government schools in Islamabad that have embraced the STEAM-based pedagogy. Titled as the ‘STEAM Competition Awards Ceremony,’ the event was graced by the presence of hundreds of government school teachers and students. The Khwarizmi Science Society (KSS) was invited by PAMS to conduct two transformational teacher training workshops at the ceremony.

The workshops were aimed at awakening the curiosity of the teachers and improving their teaching skills. The two lead trainers from KSS, Dr. Muhammad Mustafa and Ms. Mohsina Asif, hosted these workshops and shared their expertise with the attendees.

Dr. Muhammad Mustafa conducted workshops on ‘Agenda-based Science Communication in the Classroom’ and ‘Integration of Advanced Teaching Modalities.’ He shared his insights on how to communicate science effectively in the classroom and integrate advanced teaching techniques to make the learning experience more engaging and interactive. Dr. Mustafa raised thought-provoking questions during his session and concluded his arguments with a climatic phrase:

Look at the sky for long periods of time, and you’ll see, it looks back at you.

On the other hand, Ms. Mohsina Asif presented on ‘Communicating Science Inside and Outside Classrooms’. Her workshop was focused on the importance of communicating science in a manner that is not only restricted to the four walls of the classroom but also extends to the broader society. She emphasized the need to make science accessible and understandable to everyone with the use of low-cost and easily replicable experiments and tools. Ms. Mohsina left every mind wondering with her climatic phrase:

The magic of science lies not just in its theories but in the art of sharing them with clarity and ease.

The Khwarizmi Science Society is thrilled to have collaborated with PAMS on this event and is grateful for the opportunity to conduct these workshops. The Society hopes that the collaborative efforts of both organizations will leave a lasting impact on the education system in the country.
