KSS’s General Body Meeting – 2024

Abstract:

KSS held its General Body Meeting (GBM) 2024 at the Center of Excellence in Solid State Physics, University of Punjab, Lahore. The meeting brought together KSS Executive Committee members, General Body members, and esteemed guests, including scholars, experts, and educationists. The meeting featured detailed presentations on KSS’s outreach projects, financial structure, revenue streams, and new initiatives like family memberships and the upcoming executive committee elections scheduled for Spring 2025.

Dr. Shahid Atiq, President KSS, initiated the meeting with an introduction to KSS and its team. He highlighted the society’s mission and its journey of growth over the years, emphasising the importance of science engagement and education.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Charisma Wafee, Vice President KSS, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the inception and vision of KSS, focusing on its founding principles and goals. She elaborated on the international collaborations and partnerships KSS has formed with global scientific organisations. Charisma emphasised the role of KSS in promoting scientific literacy, striving to reach diverse audiences and break down language barriers.

 

Dr. Muhammad Mustafa, Joint Secretary KSS, presented the financial performance of KSS FY 2023-2024, discussing the revenue sources, financial challenges, and the sustainability of KSS operations. He urged individuals and organisations to contribute to support the ambitious projects and initiatives planned by the society.

 

 

 

Amna Lal Hussain, Science Communicator KSS, announced exciting new initiatives, including the launch of Family Memberships, and the upcoming KSS Executive Committee elections set to take place in Spring 2025.

 

 

 

Dr. Muhammad Sabieh Anwar, General Secretary KSS, introduced the ongoing projects, including the Phenomenon and Design Lab initiative and the establishment of the Lahore Science Foundry. He also discussed future plans for the upcoming Melas and the challenges faced due to funding constraints.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The highlight of the event was the “Saadat Anwar Siddiqi Award for Science Teachers,” where Mr. Hassan Fareed received the prestigious award along with a cash prize of 100,000 PKR. Special Recognition Awards were presented to Mr. Muhammad Kashif and Mr. Muhammad Akhtar Tarar (couldn’t attend the meeting). The awards were presented by respected Prof. Khalid Masood Siddiqi and Dr. Shahida Bano.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

An open discussion followed, where attendees shared their thoughts on KSS’s projects, the importance of science education, and suggestions for future initiatives to enhance the society’s impact.
