Outreach Event
The Children Library Complex’s recently played host to the Khwarizmi Science Society (KSS) on it’s annual festival, and it was a delight to see the young minds of our future engaged in a world of scientific wonders as we brought four of our major demonstrations forward.
One of the most crowd-favorite was the balloon experiment with liquid nitrogen. Children were asked whether it was possible to fit three balloons into a small box. With resounding “NO’s”, they watched as the balloons were submerged in liquid nitrogen, causing them to shrink. The magical part came when the balloons were retrieved – they expanded back to their original shape! This experiment not only showcased the fascinating properties of liquid nitrogen but also taught kids about its low temperature and the effects of extreme cold on objects.

Three of our esteemed members Muhammad Ayyaz, Muneeb ul Haq and Dr Muhammad Mustafa led activities involving lasers and microscopy with interactive games that combined fun with educational explanations on the subject of matter.
This is all a small step towards establishing a societal and educational system that does not limit the potential of science but rather empowers individuals from different socio-economic backgrounds to benefit from scientific knowledge. Let’s join our effort to create an inclusive framework that makes science accessible for everyone!
Outreach Event
On March 17 and 18, 2023, KSS set its course towards Eminabad, a town near Gujranwala, where Government Islamia High School No. 2 opened its gates for us. The Mela incorporated two of KSS’s biggest demonstrations; The LHC Tunnel and Khalai Kachwa (planetarium) which were a huge success.
The beaming laser show, football with protons at LHC, peek into the nano world via a microscopy show and shrinking balloons while learning leidenfrost effect were highlights of the mela. Wonders of space science were not only explored through the planetarium, but the solar telescope made it possible for people to descry the sun.
Outreach Event
On February 2nd, 2023, the Pak Alliance for Maths and Science (PAMS) and the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT) organized a celebratory event to acknowledge the efforts of government schools in Islamabad that have embraced the STEAM-based pedagogy. Titled as the ‘STEAM Competition Awards Ceremony,’ the event was graced by the presence of hundreds of government school teachers and students. The Khwarizmi Science Society (KSS) was invited by PAMS to conduct two transformational teacher training workshops at the ceremony.
Outreach Event
The KSS team visited the Zaawiya Trust School to distribute particle physics colouring books in Urdu. Designed by CERN, these two books on the particles of the universe and the ATLAS experiment were printed in and translated in Urdu by the Khwarizmi Science Society and the volunteers, Syeda Amina and Hamza Hanif. KSS has distributed almost 400 books to the The Trust School, the Little Stars Orphanage in Vehari, and Takmil School branches in Muzafargarh, Balochistan, and Sindh along with the Zaawiya Trust School.
Ms Mohsina Asif and Mr Muhammad Yausoob distributed colouring books amongst children and entertained them with short films about CERN and ATLAS. We can’t wait to see these budding scientists and artists bloom!
