Date: July 20, 2025 July 28, 2025 Time: Venue: Government College University Lahore Abstract: Quantum Physics in Pictures | Lecture Series | Week 1In the first week of the quantum lecture series organized by the Khwarizmi Science Society at Government College University Lahore, our course director Mr. Hamza Waseem, Oxford PhD Physicist and Rhodes Scholar, introduced the idea of visual mathematics to the participants. He explained how diagrams can represent quantum systems and help us think differently about their structure and behavior. This is a one-of-a-kind teaching experiment that brings quantum mechanics to life through spatial reasoning and pictorial thinking. The sessions followed by tutorials saw an enthusiastic response from students, eager to move beyond equations and engage with the subject in a whole new visual language. Quantum Physics in Pictures Lecture Series | Week 2In Week 2 of the lecture series, students peeked inside boxes and found “spiders”, and learned that everything in the quantum world is made of red and green spiders. They explored the behavior and interactions of spiders through spider fusion and copy rules; examined how spiders create quantum states, logic gates, and tests; and saw how to compose these components to build quantum circuits for quantum computation. They also discussed quantum gate computing and learned how to simplify quantum circuits visually. Quantum Physics in Pictures Lecture Series | Week 3In week 3 of the lecture series, students learned a new way to perform quantum computing: using tests or measurements. The session covered the associated computational errors and their corresponding correction techniques. Quantum teleportation was also revisited and successfully described within this new framework. All concepts were demonstrated using the diagrammatic rules established in previous weeks. Quantum Physics in Pictures Lecture Series | Week 4In our final week, Dr. Hamza Waseem guided students through the fascinating intersection of the quantum and classical worlds. They learned to diagram interactions between qubits classical bits, simplified hybrid algorithms, and even mastered the “square-popping rule”! |
